About the work:
The ascendancy of abstraction it's in many forms has been a major influence in my work, but I learned about painting from realist artists who's images, lush with texture, color, and light, we're as much about the paint as their subject. I might choose to paint a simple shape, a place, a face, but there's something of import in each image. Each of us interprets what we perceive in ways unique to our own experiences. My rendition, at times more ambiguous than others, invites the viewer to articulate a narrative for themselves. Work may differ in scale and format but all invite further reflection as questions arise as to what we are seeing and why we perceive it in a particular way. In these paintings I endeavor to provide one glimpse of the thing itself.
